This groove is very useful to have in your arsenal of odd grooves. Please click the link for the transcription where you can see the groove notation.
As odd grooves can feel awkward or jagged unless that is the intended outcome, I feel you should try to avoid any odd feelings at all possible.
You can do this by using a very cool technique call ‘odds and evens’ This is where you accent all the odd counts in the first bar then all the even counts in the second bar. So in bar one you accent the 1,3,5 and 7 counts then in bar two you accent the 2,4 and 6 counts. This works very effectively.
Try learning one limb at a time and keep relaxed. Work on the ride pattern first the kick drum then the snare and hi-hats. It’s important to count through each variation then try 2 limbs so the ride pattern and kick pattern for example or the ride pattern and snare pattern and build from there up to three limbs then 4.
Work at 60bpm and go up in increments of 5 until you reach 120bpm.
Have fun and thanks for checking out this lesson
